Question: Should I apply only to top ten universities?
Answer: You should request information from at least 10 institutions. College admissions are competitive enough for international students that you need to apply to many institutions to have a reasonable chance of being admitted to a few schools. Some international students apply to as many as 15 institutions, especially if they are in highly competitive fields like engineering, business, or computer science.
Ranking can be world wide, region based and even subject based. If one is looking for a ranked university, search should be subject based.
Question: Is only TOEFL applicable for USA? Can a student also take IELTS?
Answer: Yes, a student can take IELTS instead of TOEFL. As 1500 Universities have started accepting IELTS.
Question: What is the ideal time to start applying to universities, and what are the different start dates?
Answer: Generally, the students need to apply for USA one year in advance. This specifically would be an advantage to those students looking out for scholarships. Most commonly available start dates are in the Fall Session (August/September) and the spring session (January/ February).
Question: Can I work while studying?
Answer: Students are allowed at work 20 hours a week on-campus during the term and full-time during the vacation period.
Question: Is it required to pay tuition fee expenses in advance and show receipt from the university?
Answer: No- Paying the tuition fees expenses in advances is a good way to show proof of funds but it is not a requirement to pay in advance
Question: I have received my student visa, when should I travel?
Answer: Students (F1 or M1) may travel within 30 days of the commencement of the course of study stated on your I-20 regardless of how early your visa was issued.
Question: How early should I apply for my student (f1 or m1) visa?
Answer: You are encouraged to apply early for your student non-immigrant visa to ensure that you can get on your way in timely fashion. During the summer season (April to September) you may apply at any time prior to start date of your classes. During the rest of the year, you may apply up to 90 days prior to your start date.
